Our Story

Back in 2018, two childhood friends in Iceland named Sveinbjörn and Davíð decided to start a business. They began renting outdoor clothes to foreign travellers in Iceland. The business took off, and along the way they discovered a growing need to help travellers with delayed luggage — a worldwide problem.

What began as a simple rental service quickly turned into something much bigger. Every day, travellers arrived without their bags, stressed, underprepared, and often unsure where to turn. Sveinbjörn and Davíð stepped in, providing immediate access to essential clothing and gear, and in the process learned one crucial lesson: when luggage is delayed, time and simplicity matter more than anything else.

As the operation grew, they were joined by Ásta, who brought deep airline experience and firsthand insight into how delayed luggage is handled behind the scenes. Her perspective helped bridge the gap between travellers, airlines, and local service providers — turning an improvised solution into a structured, scalable one.

Working closely with airlines and travellers on the ground, the team refined a system that removes friction at the exact moment it hurts most. No long forms. No endless phone calls. Just a fast, local solution that gets people back on track with their journey.

That experience became the foundation of Gearloop.

Gearloop connects passengers with delayed luggage, airlines, and trusted local partners around the world, making it possible to offer instant access to clothing and essentials when luggage doesn’t arrive. For travellers, it means less stress and more freedom. For airlines, it means lower costs and happier customers. For local businesses, it means new opportunities.

Our story is rooted in real-world experience, built by people who have been on the front line of delayed luggage for years. Gearloop exists to turn a bad travel moment into a manageable one — wherever in the world it happens.
